Today would have been my father's 103rd birthday. I think of him, often. New work continuing with recent mediums- namely, Arnhem printing paper and Speedball block printing ink. This time using their fluorescent inks. 22"x30" titled, "Warm San Francisco Nights."
"A painting to me is primarily a verb, not a noun, an event first and only secondarily an image." (Elaine de Kooning). This is a blog about painting. Specifically, my paintings and random observations of the "verb." Mostly images of work at various phases to share with friends and families. Almost forgot this piece and is worth looking at. Lulu came back from one of her workshops and was talking about working with "clay dyes" and it piqued my interest and it turns out that these dyes were in fact the basis of the original medium used in "The Cave Paintings" and are a result of naturally occuring oxides in clay/earth.
My beloved gifted me a glorious set of these for our anniversary. I've used them on paper and was pleased with the depth of tone and was curious as to how they would react to unprimed canvas. So, to expedite
the staining effect, I mixed them with alcohol and this is the result. 36"x36" unprimed canvas with clay dyes mixed with alcohol. Titled: "Jack In The Cave."

Sun is shining, birds are singing and as my beloved said to me in a note this morning,"those dark places have been replaced with color and light."
Lots of new work- small pieces and some on paper and a major breakthrough for me- watercolors.
Let's have a look, shall we?

Many, many thanks to Ruth Koomler and her fabulous new gallery in Fort Wayne, IN (1107 Broadway) for showing some of my work. Below is a great image of "Imogene At The Beach" with me on the right and my favorite patron, Alex Leavell.
Some new work as I prepare for two upcoming events. The Decatur Sculpture Tour returns to our fine city June 10th. Lulu and I will be hosting an Open House at LaughingCat Gallery + Studios 222 North 2nd Street, Decatur that weekend. And we will be participating in the Adams/Wells County Studio Tours on Saturday Oct.1st. I'll have work on paper for sale including a fun set of original artwork on postcards.
New work in advance of both events below:
"Atom Heart Mother"- 7"x9" alcohol inks.
As always, thanks for looking/seeing!
