Yesterday, Lulu in tow with our friends Alex Leavell and Jonathan Sweeney, hung my new show at The Arena Theater in Fort Wayne. The weather reflected our mood- sunny and warm. I am absolutely blown away to see my pieces in a "proper" setting and am grateful for the opportunity. The show will be up for three weeks as part of the theater program. Deep gratitude to all whom made this possible. It's what we painters truly live for.
"A painting to me is primarily a verb, not a noun, an event first and only secondarily an image." (Elaine de Kooning). This is a blog about painting. Specifically, my paintings and random observations of the "verb." Mostly images of work at various phases to share with friends and families. March has come in like the proverbial lamb here in Indiana but I know better than to succumb to the false promise of Spring. But my color sense is leaning "green." Continuing to use unprimed/unstretched canvas and various created dyes and inks. This is 36"x36" with aniline dye, acrylic ink and oil-sticks..

Sometimes, you need to turn something onto it's head to see it differently and perhaps in it's "true" view. I did some additional staining on "The Highlands" and turned "it" around. I prefer this perspective and it works for me. I also primed the 2 inch borders.

Continuing to learn more about dye attributes and how to manipulate and control outcomes. I mixed up a batch today using the powder form and mixing with water, alcohol and glycerin. Different ratios different effects.
Finally decided to put outcomes onto primed canvas and what we've got is "Polka-dots & Moonbeams." 18"x24" stretched and primed canvas with "Australian Ghost Gum" acrylic undercoat and aniline dyes on top.

Continuing to play/create. This time with primed and stretched canvas-18"x24". The undercoat is stained acrylic ink that has been rubbed down to just the barest of stains. Top coat is alcohol ink that has been heavily thinned with alcohol. Title is "America (n.s)"- Thanks to my friend Norm for the title suggestion.
